Chelsea In For Manchester United Transfer Target?
According to one newspaper report this morning, the Premier League leaders have already bid £30million for Strootman, who has been linked again with United ever since Louis van Gaal was appointed manager in the summer.
But attaching any veracity to the reports is another matter altogether. Today’s Sunday Express claims the reports have originated in Italy. But Italian media are claiming that the story originated not in Italy but at the Express’s stable-mate, the Daily Star.
Strootman was first linked with United in 2012, but in the summer of 2013 he headed off to Roma after the Italian club lodged a bid of almost £15million to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. United were only willing to pay £12million.
The 24-year-old has only just returned from a cruciate knee ligament injury that ruled him out of the World Cup. But while the aim was for him to be fully fit for the Champions League decider with Manchester City last week, he was an unused substitute in the game leading to speculation that he wasn’t fully match-fit for a clash at the highest level.
At the moment the suggestion is at that any potential suitors will monitor Strootman during the second half of the season to assess his performances before making a bid in the summer.
However, Roma are keen to hang on to Strootman. They lie in second place in Serie A and have a Europa League campaign coming up as well as challenging for qualification for next year’s Champions League.
Meanwhile, the club’s American owners are likely to hold out for somewhere in the region of £50million should any side wish to purchase Strootman in January.
The midfielder is likely to favour a United move given the Red Devils’ past interest and the fact that he has worked with Louis van Gaal in the Dutch national team set-up.
Januzaj Set To Join Moyes?
Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj could be loaned out for the second half of the season.
The Belgium international has been used only sparingly by van Gaal this season with just four Premier League starts and six appearances off the bench for a total of 408 minutes on the pitch. Over the whole of last season he played in 27 Premier League games, 15 of which were as a starter.
Reports earlier this week suggested that Januzaj may leave Old Trafford for the second half of the season and Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo suggests the 19-year-old may be a target for new Real Sociedad coach David Moyes, formerly of Manchester United.
But Mundo Deportivo’s report is full of ‘ifs’ and ‘maybes’ which suggests it is of a speculative nature and there is nothing concrete in its reports.
