January Manchester United Transfer Depends On City Result

Kevin Strootman Manchester United transferHopes of a Manchester United transfer move for Kevin Strootman during the January transfer window depend largely on his club side Roma being knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City.

Strootman started his first match in over eight months for Roma in last night’s 2-2 draw with Sassuolo. That followed a lay-off caused by a cruciate knee ligament injury that he picked up at the end of March and which caused him to miss the World Cup.

Strootman may well start in Wednesday’s vital Champions League group stage game with Manchester City at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Lose and the Serie A side are out of this season’s competition and Strootman may well be on his way out of the club next month.

The Sunday Mirror claims Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal doesn’t want to wait until the end of the season before making a move for the Dutchman. Various reports have suggested that Strootman is keen on a move to Old Trafford having been linked extensively with United for over a year before his move to Roma in 2013.

The paper adds that United won’t pay more than £30million for a player valued by Roma’s American owners at more than £60million but that the Italian club could buckle in the face of a United bid in January. That remains to be seen.

Saints Want Clyne Extension

Manchester United transfer target Nathaniel Clyne will be offered a new deal by Southampton.

The 23-year-old right-back lost his place in the Southampton side to Calum Chambers last season but he regained his spot in the starting line-up at the start of this campaign following Chambers’ transfer to Arsenal.

Clyne’s performances have been impressive enough to gain him international recognition with England and United are back on his trail.

The Red Devils were initially linked with Clyne in January 2012 when he was still with Crystal Palace and playing in the Championship. His current deal runs to 2016 and plans are afoot to offer him a five-year contract that would see him remain at St Mary’s until 2019.

Reus Still A United Target

Manchester United are still in the race for Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus. But after reports last week stating that Chelsea are no longer interested in the Germany international comes a report stating that he is still on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist.

The Daily Star On Sunday says that Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are the front-runners to secure Reus’s signature. But United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich can also be added to that list.

Reus is available for £20million when his release clause kicks in next summer. He is expected to leave Dortmund regardless of whether or not they qualify for the Champions League.
