Switzerland international Lichtsteiner is out of contract at the end of the season and the 30-year-old is being linked with interest from both Lazio and Manchester City. Reports of a possible move to Arsenal are wide of the mark, largely due to the fact that he is now beyond the age where the Gunners offer anything more than a one-year deal.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio earlier today, Lichtsteiner and Juve are no closer to coming to an agreement over a new deal.
Di Marzio adds that the Serie A leaders have lodged a formal bid of €10million (£8million) for Danilo and are willing to offer the Brazilian a pay packcet worth some €2million a year nett. That’s the equivalent of just over £50,000 a week gross and considerably less than the €3million a year – almost £80,000 a week – being demanded by Lichtsteiner.
However, Juve’s bid is likely to be rejected by Porto. Danilo has a release clause worth €50million (£40million) in his contract with the Portugese club which has a habit of not giving much leeway in matters surrounding a release clause.
They are likely to reject Juve’s bid out of hand but the news suggests the Italian club are preparing to replace Lichtsteiner whether he likes it or not.
