The Mexico international moved to the Bernabeu at the beginning of September on a season-long loan with the option of a £16million permanent transfer at the end of the season.
The link with Aguero is one that has been made on numerous occasions so far this season and will no doubt be repeated between now and the end of the campaign. Aguero is known to fancy a move to Real Madrid – he played for their local rivals Atletico from 2006 to 2011. However, City dug in their heels during the summer over any exit for the Argentine and are likely to do so again should Real come calling.
However, United fans will be more concerned about any return for Chicarito. The 26-year-old has played just 316 minutes of football for Real so far this season. That compares to 1249 minutes for United over the whole of last season.
More worryingly for Hernandez, most of those 316 minutes came at the start of the season. He has played for just six minutes in the last four La Liga games and just three minutes in the last three Champions League matches.
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti apparently doesn’t believe that Hernandez has the right qualities that he is looking for on a long-term basis. The Mexican still has a role to play in the Real side this season, but it will only be as a squad player.
A return to Manchester United looks likely next summer.
