No Manchester United Transfer As Valdes Returns To Spain

Victor Valdes Manchester United transfer newsFormer Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes WON’T be signing for Manchester United.

The 32-year-old free agent has been linked with a move to Old Trafford after he spent some time training with the Manchester United first-team squad. However, Catalunya Radio reported today that he has returned to Spain to work further on his rehabilitation. That suggests that his recovery is not yet complete. Once it is he will start looking for a new club.

Valdes hasn’t played since injuring a cruciate knee ligament whilst appearing for Barcelona against Celta Vigo at the end of March. His contract with Barcelona expired at the end of June, while Monaco tore up a pre-contract on the grounds that he wouldn’t pass a medical.

The Spain international was linked last month with Liverpool but talks collapsed when the Merseyside club told Valdes they wanted proof of his complete fitness before they would offer him a contract.

Valdes was then given the chance to train with Manchester United which led to speculation about a move to Old Trafford. But with his return to Spain that option appears to have been closed off – at least for the time being.
