Trio Linked With £47m January Liverpool Transfer Moves

Martinez, Cech, Redmond All Linked

Jackson Martinez Liverpool transfer newsLiverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has denied he is eyeing up any new players during the winter transfer window.

“It’s not something I am looking at,” he said yesterday. That doesn’t stop the speculation, though.

Metro newspaper has weighed in with an unlikely-sounding report linking Liverpool with three new players at a cost of £47million. Porto striker Jackson Martinez, Chelsea keeper Petr Cech and Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond are the three players Metro thinks will be on their way to Anfield in January.

Martinez has long been linked with Liverpool, but Metro thinks the Reds can renegotiate his £35million release clause down to £30million. That sounds unlikely, especially with Porto now assured of a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League following last night’s 3-0 victory over BATE Borisov.

A move next summer is more likely when Martinez’s release fee drops to £28million. But he turns 29 next October and it sounds a high price to pay for a player who will have no re-sale value when his contract expires – should he move.

January moves for Cech and Redmond are more likely. Cech has been linked with a £7million exit from Stamford Bridge while we reported at the weekend that scouts from Anfield are monitoring Redmond ahead of a possible January bid.
