Liverpool Transfer Target Shaqiri Can Leave Bayern

Swiss Midfielder Has Been Linked With Liverpool Interest

xherdan shaqiri Manchester United transferBayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer has admitted that Liverpool transfer target Xherdan Shaqiri is likely to quit the club in January.

Switzerland international Shaqiri has been linked since the summer with interest from Anfield and the Reds saw a £16million bid rejected by Bayern in June.

“Bayern have already sent out a signal and Xherdan Shaqiri has been given to understand that he can probably go in the winter break,” Beckenbauer told Sky Deutschland. He added that Shaqiri would be missed by the Bundesliga side “because he is a great talent.”

The 69-year-old’s comments echoed similar sentiments made by Bayern coach Pep Guardiola who said last week: “I want players at Bayern Munich have want to play here.

“If a player does not want to stay here, he has to go to another club.”

Shaqiri is known to be unhappy with his playing time at Bayern. He failed to make the starting line-up for last night’s Champions League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad and only came on for the last six minutes – just in time for Bayern to throw away a 2-1 lead and lose, 3-2.

The 23-year-old has just three starts for Bayern in the Bundesliga this season along with five appearances off the subs’ bench.

Liverpool are likely to face competition from Manchester United for his signature.
