”I Would Go At Once,” Says Schar
FC Basel defender Schar has been tracked by Arsenal for much of the season, but they face competition for his signature, not least from Manchester United and Juventus.
However, with Basel facing Real Madrid in a Champions League group match in Switzerland this evening Schar admitted that he wouldn’t be able to say ‘no’ to the offer of a move to the Bernabeu – even if such an offer came directly after tonight’s match!
“If Real Madrid asked me onto their bus after the game on Wednesday, I would go at once,” he told Swiss newspaper Aargau.
“It is an attractive league with great sporting opportunities and a beautiful place to live, not too far from the private environment.
“Germany and England are also very attractive.”
Reports in Italy yesterday claimed that Juventus are preparing a January bid for Schar but that Basel were looking for €10million (£8million).
Schar is out of contract with the Swiss club at the end of the season although Basel have the option to extend his current deal by another year.
The Gunners were linked yesterday with a report claiming they will tie up a £9.5million deal in January. That looks unlikely given the state of his contract at Basel. However, Arsenal may well make an offer in January.
Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski is wanted by Serie A side Juventus. However, the Italian giants only want a loan deal instead of a permanent move.
