Arsenal Transfer Target Moutinho Set To Quit Monaco

Moutinho Arsenal Bound?

Joao Moutinho Arsenal transferArsenal transfer target Joao Moutinho looks as though he will be on his way out of Monaco in January.

The Portugal international has recently been linked with interest from the Emirates and the Daily Express goes so far as to suggest that he has handed in a transfer request at the French club.

However, the news from France, while denying the transfer demand, still suggests that Moutinho is looking for a way out of the Ligue 1 club.

The Monaco project has been scaled back somewhat in recent months and far from challenging for the title as they were last season the side are currently languishing in mid-table in the French league.

After seeing James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao both leave the club in the summer Moutinho asked his agent Jorge Mendes at the end of August to find him a new club. It was too late to wrap up a deal in the last transfer window, but the next is a distinct possibility.

Moutinho cost Monaco €25million (£20million) when they bought him from Porto in the summer of 2013. French newspaper L’Equipe suggests the asking price would now be €30million (£24million).

Arsene Wenger is known to be an admirer of the 28-year-old and while there will be no shortage of potential suitors, Arsenal appear to be front-runners at present.
