Gundogan Is Still Manchester United Transfer Target

Gundogan Harbours Premier League Hopes

Ilkay Gundogan Manchester United transferBorussia Dortmund midfielder and Manchester United transfer target Ilkay Gundogan has admitted he would like to play in the Premier League.

United were linked with Gundogan in the summer of 2013 and speculation still suggests they are keen on the Germany international despite a year out of the game through injury.

“Playing outside Germany is one of my big goals,” Gundogan told a Turkish television programme.

“If one day I leave here I’d like to play in Spain or for one of the big teams in England.”

Even a change in manager at Old Trafford has failed to dampen speculation over a Manchester United transfer move for the 24-year-old.

We reported on Sunday that Gundogan was approached by Real Madrid with a deal in 2013. However, that transfer was to have taken place in the summer of 2014 as that the time of the approach Real were embroiled in the saga that led to Gareth Bale joining the club from Tottenham Hotspur.

Gundogan missed 14 months of football through injury. He picked up a back injury while playing in a friendly international for Germany against Paraguay in August 2013 and didn’t play again until his comeback in Dortmund’s Bundesliga match with Cologne in October. He has fought his way back into the side and is a first-team regular again.

During his lay-off he signed a new contract with the German club that expires at the end of June 2016. His previous contract was due to expire in the summer.
