Officials Sacked After Gervinho Immigration Breach
According to the Ivorian website Imatin, the incident is alleged to have happened after the Ivory Coast’s home defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo on 15 October.
Roma hired a private jet to fly the former Arsenal man back to Italy straight after the match. However, when Gervinho arrived at the airport in the Ivorian capital Abidjan he tried to board the plane with a young woman in tow carrying his suitcase.
The incident unravelled when the pilot of the private jet refused to allow the woman to travel back to Italy on the flight saying that his instructions were to return with Gervinho alone.
The matter was referred back to the airport and security officials were then involved with the result that the woman was removed from the plane.
It has since emerged that Gervinho somehow got the woman through customs despite her not having any authorisation to board the flight. Four officials on the ground have been sacked as a result.
