The Sunday Express claims that Bayern Munich are willing to pay £7million and will throw Manchester United transfer target Xherdan Shaqiri into the deal.
The paper claims sources in Germany are suggesting that Herrera is a prime target for Bayern in the January transfer window. Sport1 in Germany did suggest earlier this week that Herrera is a possible winter signing for Bayern, but other outlets are suggesting that the Bundesliga leaders have other targets, including Manchester United transfer target Christoph Kramer.
Herrera only moved to Old Trafford during the summer after Manchester United agreed to pay his £30million release fee to Athletic Bilbao. That followed a transfer saga in the summer of 2013 where Athletic refused a lower offer from United.
But Herrera’s time at Old Trafford hasn’t been a happy one and injuries have restricted him to just five starts for United so far this season although he has scored two goals in those games.
Bayern have told Shaqiri he can find a new club and United have been linked with an £18million bid. Add £7million in cash and that gives Herrera a valuation of £25million – a drop of over £5million in less than six months. A summer transfer fee of that amount would satisfy United with regards to Financial Fair Play.
