Manchester United Transfer News: Summer Exit for RvP?

Muller or Cavani Could Be van Persie Replacement

Robin van Persie Manchester UnitedRobin van Persie looks set for a Manchester United transfer exit next summer, according to one report today.

The Dutchman will have one year left on his contract at the end of this season and The Independent claims that United will cash in on him now rather than give him a new contract or let him go for nothing in 2016. United also have the problem of having to pay van Persie a £10million loyalty bonus if he sees out his four-year deal with the club.

Van Persie is now 31 and he will be 32 at the beginning of next season. His goalscoring record for the side is good with 51 goal in 84 games in all competitions since his £24million arrival from Arsenal in 2012. But 30 of those goals came in 48 games during his first season with the club.

Last season was blighted by injuries although his 18 goals in 28 games meant he kept up his record of a goal every 1.6 games. But his form has been indifferent this season with just three goals in nine games and only 13.6percent of his shots on target.

The Evening Standard adds that United are already eyeing up replacements for van Persie. Thomas Muller of Bayern Munich is one candidate. He was linked with United during the summer – as was team-mate Arjen Robben – but instead signed a new deal with Bayern. A move looks unlikely.

The Standard adds that Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is also on the Manchester United transfer radar.

The Uruguay international was also linked with United having found himself playing in an unfamiliar wing role for PSG last season. He moved into his preferred role as a central striker during Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s recent absence and had a run of five goals in five games before being dropped to the bench on the Swede’s return for last night’s 3-2 victory over Metz.

Cavani would cost around £50million.
