Reds Midfielder In Renewed Serie A Interest
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is once again being linked with a move away from Anfield. The Brazilian was said to be a target for Serie A side Napoli during the summer and Rafa Benitez’s side is keen to try again with a bid in the January transfer window.
“Is it possible that Lucas could leave Liverpool in January? Yes, naturally,” Leiva’s agent Henrique Coelho said.
“Lucas likes Rafael Benitez a lot. After all, the two know each other well from when the Spaniard was coaching Liverpool.”
Leiva has made just two starts in the Premier League this season along with two more in the Capital One Cup, but game time is at a premium with Steven Gerrard playing in Leiva’s preferred midfield role.
Napoli failed to seal Leiva’s signature in the close season after failing to come to an agreement over his wages. Lucas was due to move for a £1.2million loan fee with an £8million permanent deal next summer. However, the Italian club were believed to want Liverpool to pay a portion of his wages and pulled out of the deal when the Reds refused.
