Hummels In Fresh Manchester United Transfer Link

Mats Hummels Manchester United transferManchester United transfer target Mats Hummels well have had a £47million price tag put on his him by Borussia Dortmund, but the Red Devils plan to beat Arsenal to his signature next summer.

Reports last week stated that Dortmund had put the €60million (£47million) valuation on Hummels, who was linked with interest from Manchester United during the last transfer window. Both United and Arsenal are keen on the Germany international, but there is no guarantee that he will leave the Bundesliga side.

Much depends on how Dortmund perform over the rest of this season. The side – runners-up to Bayern Munich last season – sank to the bottom of the table after losing seven of their first ten games in the present campaign. If they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League then Hummels is likely to push for a move away from the club.

Previous reports of a January move for Hummels have always been played down in this outlet and they were ruled out yesterday by United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. The club chief suggested yesterday that any major signings are likely to wait until next summer.

“We are not looking to enter the market for short-term fixes,” Woodward told investors on Tuesday.

“However we have targets that we are looking at for next summer. Should any of them become available in January – which obviously is rare – we will consider acting. But in terms of expectations-setting we all need to recognise that is a low probability.”

That rules out a move for Hummels in January unless Dortmund expressly choose to sell him – which appears unlikely.

United Target Cerci To Be Sold By Atletico?

Manchester United are being linked with Atletico Madrid winger Alessio Cerci – despite Woodward’s comments.

The Daily Express claims United and Premier League rivals Arsenal are both keen on the 27-year-old.

United were linked with Cerci during the summer and scouts from Old Trafford watched him in action a year ago when he played for Italy against Nigeria in a friendly international at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground.

Cerci moved from Torino to Atletico Madrid during the close season in a £13million deal, but he has played for just 78 minutes in La Liga over four substitute appearances.

Reports from Spain suggest Cerci will be sold by Atletico as early as January. But Woodward’s comments appear to have ruled out a United bid unless Cerci is high up Louis van Gaal’s wishlist.
