Khedira, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season and was linked with an Arsenal transfer during the summer. But Arsene Wenger brought talks to a halt after hearing that the Germany international was demanding wages of €9million a year – the equivalent of £135,000 a week. He currently earns less than €6million a year.
That was the end of the matter until last month when Khedira was reported to have told his representatives to open talks with Madrid over a new deal. However, Spanish radio station Cadena SER reports a distinct lack of interest at the Bernabeu over extending Khedira’s time at the club.
Real are not only unimpressed with Khedira’s actions over the summer, but they have also brought in the likes of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez alongside Luka Modric and Isco. There is no room for Khedira and Real are looking to save his wages to put towards the strengthening other areas of the team.
The news suggests Khedira could be sold for a nominal fee in order to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
Arsenal are likely be interested at wages lower than £135,000 a week along with a transfer fee less than the £12-15million being mooted at the time. However, they will face competition from Chelsea who are also said to be interested.
