Ronaldo In Barcelona Speculation
The Daily Star quotes reports from Spain where the radio network Cadena SER says that Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta met this week with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes. The two men met at a restaurant in Madrid on Wednesday and Cadena SER claims that Laporta – who is hoping to regain the Barcelona presidency – has made an enquiry over the possibility of signing Ronaldo should he win the Barcelona presidential election.
Cadena SER cannot say for certain what the two men talked about unless they have been briefed by either party as to the contents of the conversation. But a move to Barcelona for Ronaldo is out of the question. Real Madrid have a release clause in Ronaldo’s contract of £850million and are highly unlikely to give a discount to their biggest rivals.
Mendes said recently that Ronaldo will play on until he is 40 and will retire at Real Madrid. That pretty much dashed hopes of a Manchester United transfer next summer. It ought to rule out a move to the Bernabeu, as well.
Mendes has a number of other players on his books and has a huge network of contacts throughout South America.
Cadena SER’s alternative theory is that Laporta wants to snap up another of Mendes’s clients, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, with Barca coach Luis Enrique enduring a difficult time at present.
West Ham Looking To Sell Manchester United Transfer Target
Manchester United’s hopes of signing West Ham United defender Winston Reid have been given a boost with the news that the New Zealand international will be sold in January if he doesn’t sign a new deal with the Hammers.
Reid, 26, is out of contract next summer and is stalling on a new deal. He has been offered £45,000 a week by West Ham. He is looking for £60,000 a week.
Arsenal are also interested.
United Tracking Brazilian Youngster
Young Brazilian striker Douglas Coutinho is a Manchester United transfer target. The 20-year-old is being tracked by United as well as Monaco and Atletico Madrid after scoring seven goals in 25 games for Atletico Paranaense.
But his agent, Taciano Pimenta, claims Coutinho is keen to move to Spain.
“I have a few proposals and in ten days and I will travel to Europe to pick up another and lead to Athletic,” Pimenta told Globo Esporte.
“We have already talked and it is looking good for both the player and for the club [Paranaense]. The president has told me he will not object.
“Manchester United are interested as well as Atletico Madrid. But let’s wait to look at the proposal, sit down and talk. Coutinho really has a preference for Atletico Madrid.”
Kramer Talks Up Premier League Move
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder and Manchester United transfer target Christoph Kramer says he is interested in a move to the Premier League.
The Germany international completes a two-year loan at Borussia Monchengladbach next summer and is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen despite never having made a first-team appearance for the club.
United were linked with Kramer during the summer and the 23-year-old has also been watched by Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
“That has always interested me,” Kramer told the Berliner Morgenpost about the possibility of a move to the Premier League. “I would not be afraid of it.”
However, the Premier League foursome will be joined by Real Madrid in their interest.
“To be linked with Real Madrid is an enormous honour for me,” said Kramer.
