Skrtel Could Move On
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has revealed that he could quit the club this summer should the right offer come along.
The Slovakia defender hasn’t had the best of seasons after he was linked last summer with a move back to his old club, Zenit St Petersburg. However, while Skrtel says he can’t rule out a move he understands that it is all dependent on how Liverpool might view any bids for him:
“I have not had any specific offers,” Skrtel said. “But if some should come and they interest me, I would probably ponder it seriously.
“The club has the biggest say in this in any case, because they have the right for it with me being contracted.”
However, the chances of Skrtel being allowed to leave depend more on Liverpool’s transfer activity this summer. The club are already a man down in the centre of defence following the retirement of Jamie Carragher and while Kolo Toure and Schalke’s Greece international Kyriakos Papadopoulos have been touted as possible additions, the former is 32 years old while the latter hasn’t played since November and has a £19million release clause which Liverpool will find problematic. The Reds might only be open to the sale of Skrtel if they need to raise the cash to chase other targets.
Suarez ‘On City’s List’
After yesterday’s report linking Luis Suarez with Real Madrid the Uruguayan is today said to be a target for Manchester City.
Reports from Spain claim Suarez is on Carlo Ancelotti’s target list if and when the Italian coach moves to Real from PSG, but his name isn’t near to the top of that list.
The Sunday People claims today that Manuel Pellegrini has given City four names to recruit this summer and that Suarez’s is one of those four names. The paper ignores the fact that City are already in talks with the agent of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and have made an offer to his agent of wages in the region of £6-7million a year. But Cavani prefers Real Madrid and the interest is mutual, which means his international team-mate Suarez could be lined up instead by City.
Liverpool are believed to have put a £40million release clause in Suarez’s contract last summer when he negotiated a £120,000-a-week pay deal, a sum which won’t be a problem for City.
