Liverpool Keen On Turan
The agent of Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan has confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the Turkey international.
Chelsea were linked with Turan before he moved to Atletico from Galatasaray in a deal worth £10million in the summer of 2011 but he is ready to quit the Spanish side and his agent Ahmet Bulut told the Turkish Football website that there is mounting interest in his client:
“There are a few clubs interested, Liverpool are one, and so are Arsenal. There are no official or concrete offers at the moment but two clubs have spoken about wages.”
Turan, 26, has a £19.5million release clause in his contract with Atletico, something which could stop any interest from Liverpool in its tracks.
Alderweireld Talks Up Liverpool Interest
Liverpool’s hopes of signing Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld have been given a boost by the player himself.
Alderweireld has been watched by Liverpool on a number of occasions and was linked earlier this week with interest from Roma. But although a deal was expected to be completed early next week the Serie A side’s general manager Walter Sabatini came out and scotched the rumours by saying he would oppose any such move for the Belgium international.
Alderweireld has ruled out a move to Manchester City but yesterday he began talking up reported interest from Anfield.
“I don’t want to bring any rumours to the world, but for example Liverpool has the potential to go to the top,” he said.
“I do not know when I’m going to make a decision as to where I’m going. Last season, Vertonghen left it late [to go to Spurs]; maybe that decision will happen to me at some time.”
Alderweireld, 24, is expected to move for around £7million this summer; however, he has previously stated that remaining at Ajax is still an option, though that appears to be unlikely.
Reds To Watch Toulouse Defender
Liverpool will send scouts to watch Toulouse defender Aymen Abdennour in action for his side against Marseille this weekend.
Abdennour has been linked with interest in the past from Arsenal, Barcelona and Newcastle, but Brendan Rodgers has joined the race for the Tunisia international as he faces up to the prospect of losing Jamie Carragher at the end of this season while doubts persist over the future at the club of Martin Skrtel.
Abdennour joined Toulouse from Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in 2011 in a deal worth 500,000 euro. He had a stint on-loan at Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in 2010-11 but turned down the offer of a permanent deal with the German club to move to Toulouse.
The 23-year-old is currently under contract until 2016 and although he was a guest of Barcelona at their Champions League clash with AC Milan earlier this season, his agent insisted it wasn’t the precursor to a permanent deal.
