United Target In Real Link
Manchester United will face competition from Real Madrid this summer for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.
The 20-year-old was linked with interest from Old Trafford last month after his agent hinted that he could be on his way out of the Ligue 1 side if they didn’t offer him a pay rise, adding that Sir Alex Ferguson is an admirer of the player.
Now, French newspaper Le Parsien claims that Real Madrid are looking at Verratti as a possible replacement for Xabi Alonso who could be leaving the Bernabeu at the end of the season.
Verratti moved to PSG in the summer of 2012 from Italian side Pescara in a move worth 11million euro (around £9million), but his £20,000-a-week wages are the lowest at the big-spending French side and his agent Donato Di Campli has claimed there is interest in him from Spain and Italy as well as the Premier League.
Juventus and AC Milan are both said to be monitoring developments while TalkSport claims Liverpool are also keen.
Verratti has started 22 games for PSG this season and has come off the bench in six others but the success of his first season has led to speculation that the French side have slapped a £30million price tag on him. That valuation seems high but any side are likely to have to pay around £20million for the youngster who has already broken into the Italian national side.
Johnstone Moves To Walsall
Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has moved to League One side Walsall on loan for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old has been playing for United’s Under-21 side but Ben Amos’s recall from Hull City means that Johnstone has been sent out on loan in order to pick up some experience.
Johnstone had a loan spell at Oldham last season but his only league experience was during a 12-match spell with Scunthorpe later in 2011-12.
