City Eye Up Jenkinson
Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson is a summer target for Manchester City, according to reports today. The 21-year-old only signed a new deal at the Emirates earlier this season but speculation claims that City are keeping tabs on Jenkinson and will put in a bid should he become available. That looks unlikely at the moment even though Arsenal are looking to sell Bacary Sagna this summer. The Daily Mirror claims that with Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat the favourite to replace Sagna that could alert some clubs as to whether Jenkinson is available.
Jenkinson was the subject of loan enquiries from both Stoke City and Wigan Athletic earlier this season but Arsene Wenger insisted he was staying at the Emirates and it is difficult to see him doing anything other than maintaining the same stance this summer.
Sagna has been linked with a move away from the Emirates after being offered only a one-year extension to his current deal which expires at the end of next season.
Arsenal Target Fuels Quit Speculation
Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama has cast more doubts on his future at Parkhead amidst interest from a number of Premier League sides, including Arsenal. The Kenya international has been linked with a move away from the SPL champions after turning down a new deal with the club.
Arsenal have watched Wanyama on a number of occasions and the 21-year-old did nothing to dispel rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League after Celtic were eliminated from the Champions League last night.
“What I don’t know is whether we will all be together next season,” he said after the 2-0 defeat by Juventus in Turin meant Celtic knocked out of the competition 5-0 on aggregate.
“I hope so, but no one knows yet. I believe if we stay together, we can get better. We just have to wait and see.”
Manchester United are also said to be keen and have watched Wanyama in all of Celtic’s Champions League games in a bid to gauge his performance against sides of a better quality than their usual opposition in the SPL.
Cornelius Wants Premier League Move
Meanwhile, Arsenal target Andreas Cornelius says he wants ultimately to move to the Premier League although such a move might not come just yet.
We reported in November that Arsenal were keeping tabs on the FC Copenhagen striker, who only turns 20 next month.
Cornelius has scored 15 goals in 27 games for the Danish champions after breaking into the side this season but he says he wants to play at a higher level:
“The Premier League is the best league in the world, and I would love to play in it. That is my dream,” he told bold.dk in Denmark.
“But there are many things that must succeed before I can get there.”
Rumours abound in Denmark over a £3million bid from the Gunners this summer, however, Cornelius suggested a move might not happen in the short term.
“My contract with FC Copenhagen runs for the next four years, but so many things can happen so it’s hard to say anything about the future.”
Sunderland have also been linked with Cornelius in recent weeks while he has been watched by Serie A sides AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.
