Spurs Make Move for Hooper
Spurs are believed to be in talks with Celtic over the transfer of their striker Gary Hooper. The former Scunthorpe player has been linked this week with interest from Norwich City who have seen an offer of £5million plus Steve Morison turned down by the SPL side.
Celtic are believed to be holding out for £7million for a player they signed for just over £2million in the summer of 2010. Hooper has turned down the offer of a new deal with Celtic and TalkSport claims he was watched by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was at the Hoops’ game with Dundee United on Tuesday when he scored twice to bring his total for the season to 21 goals in 31 games this season. The radio station adds that talks are ongoing between Tottenham and Celtic over a deal for Hooper.
Meanwhile, Schalke say they are in “intensive” talks with Tottenham over an early move for midfielder Lewis Holtby.
The Germany international is due to move to Tottenham on 1 July after signing a pre-contract agreement with Spurs but after an injury ruled out midfielder Sandro for the rest of the season the club are looking to bring forward the deal to this month. However, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt says the two clubs are far apart in their respective valuations:
“We are in an ongoing exchange, but Lewis is a young German national team player with the appropriate quality. It is not easy for him to be released early for a knockdown price.”
