Spurs Linked With Slovenian Midfielder
Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Palermo midfielder Josip Ilicic, according to the Daily Mail. The Slovenia international and former Chelsea target has been on Spurs’ watch-list for over a year but is also being linked with Palermo’s Serie A rivals Napoli.
Previous links with a move away from the club have seen the club’s fans turn against Ilicic and at the weekend his agent Amir Ruznic played down talks of a move away from the Sicilian side.
“I do not want to talk right now,” he said. “Palermo are going through a particular period and it could create problems.
“In addition I do not want to put him on the market because the guy got in trouble with the fans last year due to various rumours so I prefer to pass this negative moment. Of course we are talking about an important player who does not need any introduction.
“Does the player like the Neapolitan club? I do not know, I do not know, I do not know,” he laughed.
Ilicic moved to Palermo from Slovenian side Maribor in 2010 for a fee of around £2million and has previously been valued by Napoli at around £20million.
Twente Favourites For Young Defender
Spurs are in talks with FC Twente over a move for young Tottenham defender William Ekong.
The 19-year-old centre-back has also been a target for Twente’s Dutch league rivals Go Ahead Eagles, whose coach Erik ten Hag is keen to sign up the young Dutchman and claimed last week to be in talks with Tottenham.
Ekong’s contract at White Hart Lane expires at the end of the season and he is not expected to be offered a new contract having failed to impress during his three years with Spurs. The teenager has been involved in the club’s NextGen serie campaign this season making two substitute appearances for the side and made 18 appearances for the under-18 team last season.
RKC Waalwijk took the Dutch international on trial in October but have not followed up their interest with a bid while reports today put Steve McClaren’s Twente as favourites to secure Ekong’s signature.
