Toon Linked With Kalou
Newcastle United are reported to have joined the race to sign former Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou.
The 26-year-old is a free agent having left Stamford Bridge at the end of last season. Arsenal were reportedly keen on the Ivory Coast international who scored 60 goals in 260 games during his six years at Chelsea.
According to TalkSport, Magpies boss Alan Pardew is keen to sign Kalou in order to beef up a front line that already includes Senegal internationals Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse. However, German side Schalke 04 are favourites to secure Kalou’s signature.
Ben Arfa ‘No Intention Of Leaving’
Meanwhile, Hatem Ben Arfa says he has no intention of leaving Newcastle unless a ‘big club’ comes in for him. The France international is preparing for Euro 2012 and told French newspaper L’Equipe that he was happy at the club.
“If I do not have a really, really serious offer, I’ll stay,” he said.
“If a big club comes, but does not offer anything interesting – that is to say, the coach really wants me – I’ll stay.
“Newcastle is a big club, even if there are bigger. I still have three years on my contract, but I know that time will pass quickly.”
Ben Arfa cemented his place in the Magpies’ side last season after spending much of the 2010-11 season out with a double fracture of the leg.
