Manchester United are monitoring Borussia Moenchengladbach defender Dante, according to a report from Germany.
The Express newspaper in Germany reports that United have sent scouts to watch the 28-year-old who is under contract to the Bundesliga side until 2014.
Borussia value the Brazilian centre-back at around 8million euro (just under £7million) although Express reports that he has a release clause in his contract with the side of just 4.6million euro (£4million).
Dante has also interested Bayern Munich and Russian big-spenders Anzhi Makhachkala but he still holds out hopes of playing a part in Brazil’s squad at the 2014 World Cup despite having no international caps as yet. Playing for Borussia Moenchengladbach is seen as a barrier to selection for Brazil as Dante himself points out:
“I must be realistic: Playing for Borussia is one thing. But when Dante plays with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, is it something else entirely. I’m sorry, but that’s logical.”
Bayern Munich have offered Dante a four-year deal and he is expected to make a decision on his future later this month.
He has spent three seasons with Moenchengladbach having had spells first with Lille in France and then with Standard Liege and Charleroi since moving from Juventude in his homeland, in 2004.
