Newspaper speculation today links former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo with a move back to England.
According to the Sunday Express, the Real Madrid player has told friends that his dream move to the Bernabeu has become “tarnished” and the paper suggests this has made Ronaldo restless.
The Portugal international celebrates his 27th birthday today and has apparently told family and friends that he misses Old Trafford and in particular Sir Alex Ferguson, whom he regards as a mentor.
Ronaldo moved to Real three years ago in a world record £80million transfer and has since scored 117 goals in 121 games for the club in all competitions – 90 goals of which have come in just 84 Spanish league games.
No direct source has been given for the reports and as a result they should be taken with a huge pinch of salt. There have been no similar reports in Spain although relations between Ronaldo and the club’s fans were fraught after their home defeat by Barcelona earlier this season.
