Samba – ‘I Want to Join Arsenal’
Christopher Samba says he wants to join Arsenal, according to The Sun.
The Blackburn central defender has been linked with a move away from Ewood Park despite only signing a new deal with the club earlier in the season.
Samba is one of a number of centre-backs linked with a move to the Emirates and the Congo international has apparently told Rovers bosses that he has sights set on a move south.
However, Rovers chair Anuradha Desai is hopeful they can persuade him to stay for another year.
“We don’t want to let Chris go. I’m confident that we can keep him and I hope he’ll stay.
“I know he has an ambition to play for Arsenal but I hope we can keep him for another year at least and prove our own ambition.”
Samba signed for Blackburn from German side Hertha Berlin for just £450,000 in 2007 although it is believed the German side are due 15% of the profit Rovers make on Samba’s transfer.
The defender publicly admitted that he wanted to leave Blackburn after Sam Allardyce was sacked and was the subject of a bid from Arsenal – believed to be around £8 million – in January.
The move collapsed and Samba signed a new four-year deal at Ewood Park, however rumours of Arsenal’s interest have revived since the end of the season and the Gunners are said to be interested in the 27-year-old as well as Bolton’s Gary Cahill.
Quinn – ‘Barton Interest is True’
Former Newcastle United midfielder Micky Quinn has confirmed that Arsenal have made an enquiry about Joey Barton.
The TalkSport presenter told listeners last night that a “third party” in the north-east had confirmed that Arsene Wenger has made contact with Newcastle over Barton’s availability.
The 28-year-old has been told he can find another club as he will not be offered a new contract when his current deal expires next summer.
The former Manchester City man is available for around £1.5 million.
